The Berwick Academy won the Northern Junior League on Saturday after completing in the final two fixtures of the 2025 season
Both of the remaining fixtures were held at Workington, where fixture one was Workington v Berwick, followed Berwick v Workington.
At the start of the day Berwick and West Lothian were level at the top of league with 11 points however West Lothian had completed their fixtures whereas Berwick had the two fixtures against Workington to complete.
Berwick were currently top on race points difference of plus 55 whereas West Lothian race points difference was plus 37, however Berwick still had the two fixtures to complete. They knew that a win or a draw in either of their final two fixtures would be enough to clearly win the League, however if they were to lose both of the final two fixtures then they had to protect their race points difference over West Lothian.
In the first meeting of Workington v Berwick, it was a Workington victory of 22 -14 meaning that with one meeting to go Berwick would still have a better race points difference over West Lothian but now that advantage was only 10 points.
The final meeting took place and although it was at the Northside venue it was classed as Berwick final home match of 2025, and the team knew what they had to do to clinch the league title, either win, draw or worst case scenario lose by less than 10 points.
The final score was again a Workington victory by 21 - 15, however more importantly Berwick only lost by 6 points meaning they would clinch the League by a better race points difference over West Lothian by just 4 points.
SCB Referee Gary Allen presented the League Trophy to the Berwick Academy Team Manager Colin Easton in the present of the Berwick riders on the day Owen Booth, Lee Harrison, Fraser Buckle and Rex Austin.
Riders who represented Berwick over the season as well as the 4 present on the day were Mark Parker, Callum Hague, Ella Marshall, Reggie Ball, Douglas Marshall and Lewis Hague.
The Speedway Control Bureau would like to thank all 5 clubs Berwick, West Lothian, Workington, Ashfield and Redcar and their Team Managers for their co-operation over what was another successful season for the Northern Junior League.
