Five clubs again competed in the 2025 Northern Junior League however this season's competition has seen the return of the Berwick Academy replacing the Armadale Devils, along with Ashfield running out of Glasgow, Redcar, West Lothian running out of Edinburgh and Workington.
Again the team's consisted of two riders riding a 500cc motorcycle of which one could be a rider who started the 2025 season with a National League average of 5.00 or below, plus one Unattached 3.00 point National League rider plus to complete the team would be 2 Youth riders riding a 125cc/150cc motorcycle.
The season started on the 19th April with a Berwick home win over Ashfield by a large score of 24 - 9 which ironically the match points scored would be vital by the end of the season. Out of the 20 matches that were run 3 matches were held in April, 7 in May, 1 in June, 2 in July, 4 in August and 3 in September, so a nice split across the season with the last fixture being on the 27th September.
There was 8 regular riders riding 500cc which were Stene Pijper and Kieran Douglas for Ashfield, Mark Parker and Owen Booth for Berwick, Jack Shimelt for Redcar, Lee Harrison and Liam Greens for West Lothian and Laylen Richardson for Workington.
The 125/150 riders again there were 8 regular riders Douglas and Ella Marshall for Ashfield, Fraser Buckle for Berwick, Seb Kelly and Jessica Cox for Redcar, Lewis and Callum Hague for West Lothian and Charlie Luckman for Workington.
There were also a number of riders who across the season did several guest bookings with Jack Shimelt and Laylen Richardson doing 4 guest bookings, Lewis and Callum Hague, Lee Harrison and Douglas and Ella Marshall doing 3 extra meetings were the busiest riders for guest bookings across the season.
Lewis Hague topped the averages with an incredible 11.13 average from his 8 matches for West Lothian and Stene Pijper was the highest 500cc rider with a 10.66 average from his 5 matches for Ashfield.
Special mentions must go to 125cc riders Fraser Buckle and Douglas Marshall who in their first season of riding speedway improved massively across the season and achieved an average of 10.09 and 7.33 from their respective matches of 7 for Buckle for Berwick and 8 for Marshall for Ashfield.
The final League table could not have been a closer finish with Berwick clinching the Championship on the last match of the season and the margin was by just having a better points scored for and against of 4 points over their nearest rivals West Lothian. With both Berwick and West Lothian tying on 11 points at the top of the final table and only separated by points scored for and against, and 3rd placed Workington just 1 point behind on 10 points it was an exciting climax to the season.
Many congratulations to all 5 clubs and their Team Managers who all worked tireless during the season to not only get the fixtures on but also to have complete teams for all fixtures and another successful season in the Northern Junior League.
