Berwick Academy have withdrawn from the 2026 Northern Junior League having found it a struggle all season with the availability of riders and also a number of fixtures being postponed.
Berwick to date had only completed two of their scheduled eight fixtures and in their two fixtures they had completed did not have a full team in either fixture.
The Speedway Control Bureau would like to thank the Berwick Promotion and in particular the Berwick Team Manager Colin Easton for their hard work and commitment to try and resolve these issues, however the only alternative at this stage of the season is to sadly withdraw them from the League.
Hopefully between now and the 2027 season the Berwick club can continue to work hard with the development of young riders at both the Berwick track and their Training track in Duns, and will re-enter the League in 2027.
With the remaining Berwick fixtures being cancelled this means now only two fixtures remain for the 2026 season which is Redcar v Ashfield on the 28th August and Workington v Redcar on the 29th August.
The Ashfield Club currently sit at the top of the table on nine points and now due to the cancelled Berwick fixtures cannot be caught therefore will be crowned the 2026 Northern Junior League Champions.
A Presentation will take place with the Ashfield Team and their riders later in the season.
